Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are probing a shooting that broke out late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time law enforcement were shutting down an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.
How It Started
Law enforcement were first dispatched to the park on Howe Avenue just after 6:30 PM after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Soon after, another report was received regarding an alleged brawl unfolding within the park grounds.
An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Regardless, it was apparent that hundreds of people had gathered without authorization without authorization.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Responding units moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems telling those gathered to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
When the dust settled, four people were found to have been shot. Those injured — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their mid to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.
Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and aided in treating those who had been shot prior to hospital transport.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the incident was confirmed to have taken place adjacent to Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators recovered additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Round impacts were discovered in the iron perimeter fence adjacent to the Home Depot store. The physical evidence indicated that at least one shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. The store itself was placed on lockdown as a precaution. CSI units alongside detectives continued working through the early morning hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Intelligence received through scanner monitoring revealed that a suspect Kia had Sacramento park shooting 2026 been stopped in the Solano County area. Four suspects were taken into custody. Deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Surveillance footage confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
